I am interested in the subject of loading a database for rendering
by Performer in a "demand paged" fashion. I have limited experience
with Performer but realize that database loading can be controlled
at the user's application level (as opposed to other visual packages).
I anticipate needing to deal with databases that are 1GB and over in
size. Obviously, the memory required for this database is prohibitive
(and damned expensive!).

I envision being able to keep a region of the database (say all data
within a 20km radius) in memory. The rest would remain on the disk.
As is needed, data would be read from disk in a demand paged manner.
This would allow smaller memory sizes but (probably) require significant
application complexity to support.

Has anyone addressed this problem? What are the hows and whys regarding
this approach ("don't bother" may be the majority response but I hope not).
If you have some information or an opinion I would love to here from you.

Thanks,
