Since a typical billboarded tree is a rectangle made up of
two triangles, you'll have trouble getting a convincing
part of a tree using the existing texture and part of the
geometry. You'll probably either want to create different
geometry (e.g. a short quad for the tree trunk only)
or a different texture (e.g. a broken tree) or both.

It's not terribly efficient, but you could use one tree per
pfBillboard and use a pfSwitch node or the draw traversal mask
to pfBillboard to enable and disable the exploded version.
