A single processor machine can't do realtime very well.
But bouncing between 30Hz and 5Hz is absurd and running
as root will not fix it (Performer sets non-degrading
priorities, that's it). It could be anything from a gfx
usage problem to a problem with ADA.

Unfortunately, it's not a "common problem." And I don't
see an easy path. Try to make it reproducible, i.e.
steady 5Hz. And keep working with tech support.
