pfInit error

I just got this error message today when trying to run performer on our VGX:

Performer Fatal (22):pfInit: usinit failed for /usr/tmp/pfSemaFile.a01418

Can anybody tell me what's going on here? The same executable is running
fine on several different PIs. I really want this thing to run on the VGX
so I can see if I've figured out how to do texture mapping correctly
