Little things. You can be more clever and cache the concatenation of
unchanging parts of the xform hierarchy if possible; keep track of
what portions of the 4x4 xform are actually in use for quicker mults,
etc. But the bottom line is that someone has to compute it.

Getting the concatenated xform from Performer or GL would be difficult
because in a multiprocessed environment Performer (in the cull) and GL
(in the draw) are potentially a frame or two behind the application
process. Also, it only works for visible geometry.
