Collision detection in Performer is currently based on line segments
and hierarchical bounding volumes (spheres and boxes). This is good
for some things, like vehicle terrain following and collisions (as
Ricardo mentioned in the town demo), but usually not appropriate for
determining volume-volume collisions of N objects where N is large and
many objects are close, e.g. an MCAD design with hundreds of moving
parts with close tolerances.
