Now on to business:
I'm pondering ways to reduce the volume messages posted to this list.
There are several possibilities:
a) start a newsgroup
b) send the list in a weekly "digest" format
c) "moderate" the list
d) two lists
e) something else
A newsgroup is a long-term solution but not what we need at the
moment. Also, the intent of the list is a bit different.
Sending the list in "weekly digest" format would require a lot of
work to maintain. :-) And, it would also induce up to a week of
latency between a question and it's actual posting. I don't think
this is the best solution.
A good short-term solution would be for me to moderate the list.
This would mean that messages would still be mailed to info-
performer, but would have to be "approved" before getting sent out to
the subscribers. One advantage of this is that the only "real"
messages would get through. "please add me" or "please remove me"
would get caught and taken care of.
The last idea would be to have two lists -- one for people with
questions and for general discussion about Performer; the other for
people who are interested in "announcements" only. I like this
idea.
So, I'm currently leaning towards both:
- creating a moderated, announcements-and-information-only list
(info-performer-announce)
and
- moderating the discussion/Q&A list (info-performer)
I'll interpret general silence as tacit agreement. I welcome your
comments..
