You can set the matrix directly (pfMakeScaleMat, pfDCSMat),
however non-uniform scales are slow because normals must
be renormalized in the graphics pipe. Also, there is at
least one bug affecting non-orthogonal transformations:
bounding cylinders in intersection requests.
