Hello Performers,
I'm sure by now many of you have seen SGI's press release and the
various online media reports since last week about the changes
announced by SGI's new CEO. I've also noticed some fairly detailed
discussions on the OSG mailing list, www.modsim.org, various blogs,
and elsewhere.
Folks have read these messages, and my personal email is brimming
over with questions from a lot of you -- What happens to Performer
now? Was the team let go? Will Performer be sold? What are my
plans? etc.
And I no longer have an SGI mail account, so I have no idea what
questions are piling up there (or bouncing back...)
Performer still belongs to SGI; they'll decide its course. I'd say
there is enough of a customer community to maintain, as well as
sufficient outside interest in the API, that anything's possible.
SGI hasn't told me whether Performer might be put up for sale or not,
but, if your company is interested in talking to them about that,
I'd be happy to put you in contact with the right people.
My plans? If someone were to scoop up Performer I might try to
follow it. I also have a long-overdue appointment with a sunny
beach and a Mai Tai. Much more likely it's time to sip that Mai
Tai and ponder new beginnings, new opportunities. I'm looking
forward to that.
I think back to all the great people I've met over the years
thanks to SGI and think of SO many positive & memorable moments.
It's been a great ride.
Now, there's no need for farewells quite yet. You can contact me
at this new address (schaffer.allan++at++gmail.com). I'll have my
wireless at the beach ;-)
Be seeing you,
Allan
