Short answer - yes and yes.
Performer was designed from the beginning to leverage multiple CPUs, and
basically all current Linux distros have SMP-enabled kernels available.
Usually, an SMP kernel is installed as the default if the installation
tool detects a multi-CPU system, and are often used even on single-CPU
Intel boxes as that's how the kernel deals with hyperthreading.
