This isn't happening with our current versions so I am guessing
somewhat. But I think I had seen this with systems that were running in
"OpenGL Multipipe" mode. You definitely don't need/want to run in this
mode if you're using Performer, which is multi-pipe aware itself.

Perhaps an easy way to find out if you're in this mode:
    perfly -M0 town.perfly

Does the window open on one pipe only, or does it span all the pipes?
If it spans all the pipes, log out, and on the login panel choose the
session option for regular Gnome, instead of "Gnome OpenGL Multipipe".
