To add my own experience so far to this thread:
I've been trying to get a yg (scripting environment using performer and the cavelib) to work on a Dual Opteron machine. Specifics are:
SUSE: 9.3 Pro
Kernel: 2.6.11.4-21.7-smp
Nvidia: 71.67
Performer: 3.2 Demo
CAVELib: 2.7.3 (Internal EVL version)
yg 0.1.11
Cavelib test programs work and I can perfly models - so both libraries and drivers seem to be working. However, when the yg executable reaches a pfSync() call, it gets stuck in that call, one of the processors goes to 100% usage, and only a black window is displayed.
If I change the pfMultiProcess call from
pfMultiprocess(PFMP_APP_CULLDRAW);
to
pfMultiprocess(PFMP_APPCULLDRAW);
the application will run as expected.
I have also had this problem on a Pentium IV with Hyperthreading turned on, and running an smp kernel. In that case, I just turned off hyperthreading and run a uni kernel to get it to work.
So Ben, I might be skeptical about whether it works 'completely' unless there is a solution to this (since I know that this is part of why you asked your initial question.)
Any suggestions or fixes would be appreciated. The issue is my particular case is to be utilizing both cpu's on this machine, so running in a 'hobbled' mode just because it will work, doesn't solve the problem.
Thanks for any help,
Geoffrey Baum

No the 64-bit version is for Itanium systems (like SGI Prism). For an
Opteron you'd have to use the 32-bit Linux version.

We've tried it on a 32-bit SuSE system with a 2.6 kernel, I'd have to
doublecheck but I'm not remembering MP problems with the latest revs...
(reminders welcome) And the 2.6 kernel will be in an OS update for Prism
fairly soon and it runs there also. Allan
