HI
One of the issues that I have seen discussed on the forums with Creator 3.x
with respects to textures is that the texture .attr file Creator uses and
the loader was also updated and some software/loader may have difficulties
with the update formats. A search through the Creator forums might help
illuminate the texture issues.
Again if your using Creator 3.x files in Performer I would highly recommend
that you save them as 15.4 files and set the save options to that as was the
last good Irix loader I used although 15.7 might also be stable. I cannot
check Irix these days as I have no access to an Irix box
Unfortunately MPI abandon support of the loader for Irix and Performer quite
a while again and only support a loader for Vega Prime, quite a bad decision
IMHO on their part, I got into quite a few arguments over that when I was
working at MPI...
As I mentioned before I'm still considering doing an OpenFlight loader
project but the time and effort required is significant so I'm still
undecided and it would really need some funding to get it going
Any again the best advice is to use the Save as Version feature of creator
3.x
Best Regards
Gordon

Subject: Re: [info-performer] FLT loader on Linux
See below. For reference, my system is a Dell 670, running Performer
3.2 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4. The models I tested with were done in
Creator 3.0.1.

I'm seeing the same thing with the textures, and the same warnings. I don't
have an IRIX box to test on anymore, so I can't confirm that it still works
under IRIX.

I haven't tried this yet, but are the nodes that fail named with names of 8
characters (or a multiple of 8). If so, this is not a new problem with the
.flt loader:

Can we add to this the problems with transparency not working (since
Performer 3.0):

...and the inability to turn off flattening, cleaning, generating normals &
materials, etc. (since Performer 2.4):

An open-source loader would be great, but it's not an easy job (unless SGI
wants to open theirs :-) ). Open Scene Graph has one, but having
contributed some code to it in the past, I wouldn't want to use it as a base
for making a Performer loader (it's just really old and hacked-up).
