I am trying to implement a Performer program that does
real-time shadowing. This program needs to run on a
PC running Windows 2000 or XP. The program needs to
load a large terrain database (.flt) that has hills
and buildings; the hills and buildings need to cast
shadows based on the position of the light source.
The shadow caster functions in Performer don't seem to
have this capability (self-shadowing).
I am new to shadows. I've read a little bit about two
methods that can be implemented using OpenGL:
1. Shadow Volume
2. Shadow Mapping
Which method should I use? Any suggestions, sample
source codes, ideas are greatly appreciated.
