[info-performer] Perfly crashes on redhat linux 8

I have a standard redhat linux 8 installation and have tried to install Performer 3-1-1 from the sgi rpms. The install seems ok but when I try to run perfly with any of the demo files a splash screen appears then the program locks.

Has anyone successfully installed Performer 3-1-1 from the rpms on redhat 8? Is there any error log file that I can look at to see why perfly seems to lock/crash?
