OpenWorlds is seeking to transfer source, rights and/or ownership of its
VRML/X3D loaders, browsers, and libraries, including its
OpenGL Performer versions.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
**** OPENWORLDS SEEKS SALE/LICENSE OF SOURCE CODE/IP ****
After 8 years of providing leading developer products for the 3D simulation
community, OpenWorlds Inc. (DRaW Computing) has announced it is seeking a
company or organization to acquire the source code and IP rights to its
OpenWorlds 3D simulation engine.
OpenWorlds has provided 3D animation and interactive simulation capabilities
for
a variety of applications including gaming, training, educational, military,
and
immersive VR. Founder and CTO, Dr. Paul Diefenbach, states: "Frankly, it is
a harder
business model today to solely control source code while adequately
supporting such
a broad product line of loaders, browsers, and developer libraries.
Developers today want source code access to speed their development cycle
and
lower costs. With dozens of man-years and millions of dollars already
invested in this mature commercial technology, we can provide a mature,
extensible technology without the purchasor having to make a comparable
investment.
A company could quickly integrate OpenWorlds into its existing product line
to
provide an immediate technology edge over their competitors. Being a robust
and
extensible technology, both maintenence and enhancement costs are very low."
OpenWorlds has various IP and source code packages that could be acquired on
either
an exclusive or non-exclusive rights basis. Compensation arrangments are
fully negotiable. In addition, consulting and training on any acquisition
on an
ongoing basis is also available.

OpenWorlds Technical Overview
OpenWorlds provides an X3D engine which supports content from most 3D tools,
including
leading content packages such as 3D Studio Max, scripting in Javascript, and
the full
compliance with the VRML-compatible profile. OpenWorlds is the most
advanced web-based
3D rendering engine available, supporting advanced features including
real-time shadows,
mirrors, reflection mapping, movie textures, speech synthesis, and bump
mapping.
OpenWorlds helped start the X3D effort, with OpenWorlds' CTO, Dr. Paul
Diefenbach, one of the
architects behind X3D and one of the specification first authors.
OpenWorlds can be integrated with virtually any software application, and
has a variety of
APIs to facilitate application control and communication with the 3D
environment. OpenWorlds'
ActiveX Control permits easy drag-and-drop integration with existing
applications including
PowerPoint and Internet Explorer. The ActiveX API permits communication
using a variety of
scripting languages such as Javascript for HTML-page integration, Java, VB,
etc. OpenWorlds
is platform independent with versions on Windows, Irix, Linux, and various
Unix flavors.
OpenWorlds' advanced C++ API supports full programmatic control over the
OpenWorlds' rendering
engine, graphical user interface (GUI), and other features. This provides
the most powerful
architecture for building custom X3D-compatible products.
