The Digital Design Studio has a key role within the Glasgow School of Art in
delivering high profile research in advanced 3D visualisation, haptics,
audio technologies and animation, whilst maintaining a range of dedicated
research programmes with industry. As a result of continued growth in its
research activity, funded by the EC Framework 6 Programme, the DDS currently
has the following vacancy.

Research Programmer
(Fixed Term Contract to June 2006)

Working as part of a small team on an EC funded project, this post will have
responsibility for integrating existing and emerging technologies into novel
3D interfaces using camera based tracking and gesture recognition for multi
user collaborative working. A key challenge will be ensuring that the
development milestones are realistic and regularly met.

It is anticipated that candidates will possess a degree, or postgraduate
qualification.

Extensive experience in computer programming with particular relevance in
advanced visualisation, virtual reality applications or virtual
environments.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate experience in several of the
following areas:-

-Programming in C++/C

-Real-time image processing or machine vision

-AI classification techniques (e.g. Neural Networks, Genetic
Algorithms)

-Gesture recognition algorithms

- Advanced visualisation (real-time viewer update)

- 3D Programming with Performer or Open GL

Closing date for submission of completed application forms is Friday 18th
June 2004 and interviews will take place on Thursday 1st July 2004.
