Hello Performers-
Many of you may have seen the e-mail from Carolina about the Immersive
Projection Technologies Workshop, IPT 2004. It will be held in Ames, Iowa
May 13-14. It has an outstanding technical program with paper contributions
from around the world. SGI is a sponsor and will participate in a number
of ways.
SGI participation in IPT will include the following:
* Simon Hayhurst, SGI Product Line Manager, will participate in a
panel contrasting scalable, shared-memory systems vs. graphics clusters for
VR.
* David Hughes, SGI European Marketing Manager for Visualization, will
present a paper outlining new techniques for solving Media Fusion problems
with shared memory, GPU based systems.
* The SGI booth will showcase our new shared memory, GPU based system,
Onyx4, showing stereo and non-stereo demos with our new compositing
technology. We will demonstrate a low cost Viz Everywhere Stereo Display as
well as a 9 million pixel ViewSonic Monitor being driven by multiple
graphics heads.
Overall Highlights of IPT 2004:
* Keynote Address by Dr. Jose Encarnacao, from Fraunhoffer IGD a
pioneer in the area of graphics, interactive systems and virtual reality.
* Geoff Dorn from the BP Center will provide the invited talk, sharing
his experiences in industrial and academic research environments
* Panel with participation from the main technology providers to
discuss future trends on computing/graphics systems for IPT
* An excellent exhibit area with displays of the latest technology
from HP, SGI, E&S, Orad, Ascension Technology and other key players in IPT
technology.
* Plenty of time to make and meet friends during the IPT breakfasts
and lunches. We will have "Discussion Tables" during the IPT-provided meals
so attendees will have an informal setting to share information about
specific topics of interest.
* An evening of enchantment in the Iowa State University botanical
gardens, Reiman Gardens. IPT attendees can explore and interact with
butterflies from around the world in the butterfly conservatory, visit a
rain forest, enjoy an evening walk around the rose garden, enjoy and
excellent Iowa dinner, and hang out with their colleagues.
Come join us at IPT 2004. Information on how to register and travel to the
IPT 2004 workshop is available in the following web site:
