THE GLASGOW SCHOOL OF ART

The Glasgow School of Art is internationally recognised as one of
Britain's foremost institutions for the study and advancement of fine
art, design and architecture. A small, specialist, practiced based
institution with an international reputation we are now also the largest
art and design research community outside London.

Digital Design Studio
The Digital Design Studio has a key role within the Glasgow School of
Art in delivering high profile research in advanced 3D visualisation,
haptics, audio technologies and animation, whilst maintaining a range of
dedicated research programmes with industry. As a result of continued
growth in its commercial activity the DDS currently has the following
vacancy.

Programmer
28 k to 32 k (12 Month Fixed Term Contract)

This post will have responsibility for developing tools, techniques and
methodologies associated with a voice recognition word processing and
editing system.

The role will involve integrating existing voice recognition
technologies into novel interfaces in support of the development of a
commercial software product for an industrial partner.

It is anticipated that candidates will possess a degree, or postgraduate
qualification.

Candidates are expected to be fluent in VB(Visual Basic), and possess
strong front end GUI skills with a strong knowledge of windows operating
systems development. A practical knowledge of database development e.g.
SQL server, Oracle or Sybase, is also expected. Skills in Java, VB.NET,
or speech recognition application development (e.g. Philips SpeechMagic
SDK) are also highly desirable. The candidate will require experience in
client facing scenarios with particular relevance to interface design.
Experience in the development of commercial software is highly desirable
for this post.
