Hi,
UCLA Academic Technology Services has just released vrNav2, a new version
of
the vrNav virtual reality navigation program that works with vrJuggler
2.0 and OpenGL Performer
vrNav2 replaces the original vrNav that was previously released by
UCLA/ATS.
vrNav2 is runs under Linix, IRIX, and Windows and includes support for
keyboard/mouse, generic joystick and gamepad under Linux and AVB force
feedback joystick and steering wheel under Linux and IRIX. vrNav2 allows
you to load a model in any format that OpenGL Performer supports. The
interaction of vrNav2 and the model is completely configurable. vrNav2
has
been configured to work with both architectural models and models created
as
part of scientific visualizations. vrNav2 supports multiple pipes on
IRIX,
stereo display, and tiled displays because it is built on top of
vrJuggler.
vrNav2 allows you to make movies on the fly by saving a numerical sequence
of images that you can later paste up into a movie. It can save left and
right eye image sequences when run in stereo mode. These images can later
be
pasted up into either a red/blue stereo movie or into an active stereo
movie.
It can save either your entire flight paths as you navigate around the
virtual space or selected points on your flight path. Subsequently it can
navigate through the virtual world on the pre-defined flight path. If
only
selected points were saved, these are treated as keyframes and are spline
interpolated to produce smooth flight.
vrNav2 includes support for interactive sounds and interactive real-time
lights via client/server protocols. It communicates with the remote
dbMax Sound Server built by David Beaudry in Max and with a special
plug-in
in 3D Studio Max, run on a PC, written by Erich Keil, used by theater
lighting designers.
The use of vrNav2 is completely documented.
vrNav2 can be downloaded from http://www.ats.ucla.edu/at/vrNav.
It is free!
