Dear Juergen,
I just happen to have been doing some tests with the ATI FireGL X1,
not only on Linux but also on MS-Windows XP. [By the way, the results
on WinXP made me send an article to this very same mailing list, see
http://oss.sgi.com/projects/performer/mail/info-performer/perf-03-10/0047.html]
Anyway, in your e-mail you do not state WHEN you get this message.
Do you get the message in the process of starting X(Free86)?
Or do you only get it when running ANY OpenGL application?
Or do you only get it when running ANY OpenGL Performer application?
Or do you only get it when running a SPECIFIC OpenGL Performer
application?
Neither do you specify WHERE you get the message(s): on
STDOUT or STDERR of the application(s) or do you see it in
/var/log/XFree86.0.log?
If you're running Linux it may help others to know which kernel
you're running: its level (2.2.x or 2.4.x) and whether it is
an SMP kernel or not and also which XFree86 release you're
using.
As to my own experience: in my tests I wanted to see the influence
of the FSAAScale on the DRAW-time (number of milliseconds for
certain 3D models) and ran perfly with all different values
as desribed in the README. I did not see ANY error messages
AT ALL.
My system:
- CPU: Dual Xeon 2.4 GHz
- RAM: 1 GB
- Graphics: ATI FireGL X1 128MB
- OS: Linux 2.4.20-20 (non SMP)
- XFree86: 4.3.0
- OpenGL driver: fglrx-glc22-4.3.0-3.2.5.i586.rpm
[hence, this was ATI's driver release 3.2.5 for an
XFree86 4.3.0 system using Glibc 2.2].
By the way: although the results in SPECviewperf 7.0
(on Linux) WERE influenced by FSAAScale, the DRAW-time
(in milliseconds per frame) in OpenGL Performers 'perfly'
was not influenced AT ALL by it: always 11.8 milliseconds
when using "-p 3100,-800,599.6" and "-e 4,-17,0" to define
the initial position and heading, pitch and roll values
(remember to use the "-f" command-line option to be in
fly-mode, otherwise you 'crash' to the ground).
With kind regards,
Jurgen Rusch
