Just to safe some of your time in advance ;). I had a hard time
installing SuSE 8.2 and RH8 on a D800 some weeks
ago. Problem: Some of Dells DVD ROMs do not seem to work well with both
linux installation DVDs. The setup starts normally
but fails when it unpacks some rpms...
It took me a long time before i figured out the problem is DVD access
and i just tried the CD versions ;) which worked.
But you will have to replace the kernel with a version >= 2.4.21 to have
DMA access (which really makes a difference
during texture/geometriy loads etc.).
