Hi Marc,
as has been posted already the ATI linux support for the high end cards
is still somewhat poor. A couple of weeks ago we bought two new linux
boxes with the Radeon 9800. But the 9700 driver did not work on that
cards (should have investigated earlier, i know). There is a "ghost"
driver on a german web side which handles a totally different card but
was told to be usable with the 9800, we tried that but did not succeed
(i think the Xserver started but produced locks after a while, have to
ask a colleague). But we could exchange the cards for NV FX ones ;)
