Yep; this is vaguely complicated so I'll explain -- the Inventor loader
in Performer actually uses the Inventor library itself to load/parse the
iv file, and then does a traversal through the scene graph (using
Inventor functions) to tesselate everything and put it into the pfdBuilder.

So to get this working you must have a copy of the Inventor DSOs (or
DLLs) loaded on your system. IRIX ships that way by default; on Linux,
if you install the Inventor DSOs I think everything works out; but on
Windows there are just some missing bits that make the picture incomplete.

It's one of our many loader-update to-do items, that we do intend to
take care of; however (!!) if there are any folks out there with spare
time and a desire for the everlasting honor and glory of doing so :-),
everything you (or we) will need to put this all together is included in ..

  - The open-source version of Inventor (http://oss.sgi.com/)
  - Performer's Inventor loader (also http://oss.sgi.com/)
