for whatever reason, your rgb file was saved with a bad magic number.
look at image.h (either in /usr/include/gl/image.h (on irix) or
/usr/include/Performer/image.h (any platform)).
the first element in the image structure is an unsigned short imagic.
imagic should be 702 octal (1da hex).
you can double check this with xxd or od -x or whatever hex dump tool
you like to use.
