Hi,
The reason why GLUT does not work has been explained by some bright person
on the NVIDIA discussion forum. Look there for the precise explanation. A
brief outline follows:
When the new GLUT rpm for rh 9 was made, RH did not have the latest NVIDIA
drivers and so could not test against them.
Some old SGI extension which had hitherto not been support by the standard
opengl library was suddenly supported and, therefore, when glut was
recompiled against this opengl library, the extension was used. (its
potential use had been a part of glut since the dawn of times). For
this reason glut expects the extension.
Unfortunately, the NVIDIA drivers do not support the extension, hence
something breaks.
I fixed this manually compiling the GLUT version in the latest Mesa - and
manually installing - however, this had to be forced. I hope a better
solution will turn up - i.e. a Red Hat package.
Red Hat is aware of the problem, but apparantly it has low priority.
/Andreas
