the only modeling tool i know is MultiGen Creator. they have a structure
called CAT (continuously adapative terrain) which is similar to ASD.
but i don't know if Creator could produce a CAT from a geometry and i don't
think it can export to pfb.

but, if you have the full geometry of the mummy, with all points and all
triangles, you could erode the mesh to obtain a hierarchy of triangles.

- take a triangle and its 3 neighbours.
- construct the parent triangle.
- if the morph vector of the reference vertices are small you could merge
  the 4 triangles.
