hi florian,

ok, well, shader is designed to be flexible, but unfortunately there's
only so much optimization that we can do within a single shader. on future
sgi products we'll be working to tune the algorithim i sent, so that
blends with existing fb contents can be cheaper. but for now, yes, the
cache of the previous fb results can be expensive, but is the best and
most flexible way to achieve arbitrary shading w/alpha.
