There are actually two versions of gtkglarea. One works with GTK 1.2,
and the other with GTK 2.0. It looks like you found a 2.0 version,
which will not work with GTK 1.2. If you keep looking, you should be
able to find a 1.2-compatible version. There is one at
http://linux.tucows.com/system/preview/9399.html for example.
