We actively use and develop PyPer at SARA on both Irix and linux.
PyPer is still present in Performer3.0 dev package, in:

/usr/share/Performer/src/pyper/

Although, it hasn't been updated. Our current version
is more complete, and uses Python2.2.1 or higher, and a
more recent SWIG. I'll ask SGI how I can update SGI's
CVS with this version.
