The problem on Linux is the driver software supplied by the vendor
(Nvidia
in your case). If the graphics card driver does not support active
stereo,
and
Nvida does NOT yet support stereo on all their cards, only the Quadro
series. If the driver does not provide a stereo 'visual', then you
cannot
use quad buffered stereo.

If you have a driver and a card which support quad buffered mode, then
active stereo should be no different than on IRIX. Note: watch your
values for depth (no. of bits) for each of the color buffers. On my ONYX
I use values like 32 on the 5 pipe machine, 15 or 16 on the deskside.
On Octane and PC hardware I often use 8.

Under MS-Windows SGI provided a utility program to list all the
available visuals. Your hardware would probably work there, because
the MS driver for your card does support quad buffered stereo.

Good luck!
