Hello again Performers,

More details regarding the OpenGL Performer 3.0 release,
specifically the product structure & license policy, support
information, and other bits & pieces that many have been waiting
to hear about. Please read on..

The product structure remains much the same as with prior versions
such as Performer 2.5. The IRIX performer_eoe and performer_demo
subsystems are bundled each quarter-year with the IRIX maintenance
overlays (3.0 versions beginning with IRIX 6.5.20) and are now
also available as a free web download. The IRIX version now has a
"hard dependency" on OpenGL Shader 3.0 - so be sure to download
the OpenGL Shader distribution also.

A demo version of OpenGL Performer 3.0 for Linux is available as
a free web download. It is available for both the gcc2 and gcc3
compilers; and packaged both as RPM or TGZ files. As before,
the demo version adds a "Powered by OpenGL Performer" banner
across the top of the window. The per-seat run-time license
eliminates the banner.

A demo version of OpenGL Performer 3.0 for Windows is likewise
available as a free web download. As with the Linux version,
the free demo adds a "Powered by OpenGL Performer" banner across
the top of the Window. The per-seat run-time license eliminates
the banner. Note that OpenGL Performer 3.0 for Windows currently
supports single-process (PFMP_APPCULLDRAW) operation only.

The web downloads are available at no cost. If you don't already
have an SGI "SurfZone" account, you'll need to sign up for one,
also free. See http://www.sgi.com/software/performer for all
the details.

SGI is pleased to offer technical support for OpenGL Performer
3.0 on all the platforms: IRIX, Linux, and Windows. A support
contract entitles you to technical service via telephone as well as
'free' major version upgrades for the life of the contract.

Users who purchased OpenGL Performer 2.5 for Linux and who _also_
purchased a support contract, for example, are entitled to have
their licenses upgraded to Performer 3.0. If you have purchased
Performer previously and did not also purchase a support contract,
RIGHT NOW would be the ideal time to do so! Support contracts
are available for a small fraction of the base Performer price,
and the upgrade entitlement alone will result in a significant
savings compared to the cost of new licenses. Not to mention
that you'll also get a year of SGI telephone support!

OpenGL Performer 3.0 CD's & licenses are available for pre-ordering
through the end of December; normal ordering procedures will
begin in January. Contact your SGI sales rep or SGI telesales
for any ordering assistance. Licenses are available in 1, 5,
10, and 100-license quantities.
