Hello Performers,
The IRIX 6.5.17 upgrade has released, which contains the Performer
2.5.2 for IRIX update. Folks on support can contact their support
providers for a CD shipment; or you can download it from the usual
place, http://support.sgi.com/
direct path: http://support.sgi.com/colls/patches/tools/relstream/
Performer 2.5.2 for Linux is coming very soon too. I'll post another
message when it's up on the site.
TWO important things to know when doing the IRIX 6.5.17 upgrade..!
1. The upgrade reverts the development links installed from
Performer 2.4 & Performer 2.5 back to the Performer 2.2
versions. If you are developing with 2.4 or 2.5, you need to
reinstall: performer_dev.sw.hdr from the Performer CD.
This has been discussed a lot here on info-performer, browse the
archives for the details. (search on "performer_dev.sw.hdr")
2. In 6.5.17, the 'InSight' documentation viewer (iiv) has been
replaced with the infosearch help viewer. Please join me in a
moment of silence for InSight.
Infosearch is actually quite cool, it lets you:
- put all your books on one system & serve them via HTTP
- do keyword search on the books AND man pages AND relnotes
- print in a way that makes sense
- etc.
But, it requires your books to be converted over to the
infosearch format. In future releases of Performer (3.0 &
beyond) we'll ship our books in the infosearch format. Here is
how to convert your current set of books:
% su
# insightAdmin -v
This will run through your books and show what's going to be
converted. (Anything "in old/unreadable format")
To do the conversion:
# insightAdmin -c -d
This will take a long time. [If you get "error downloading.."
messages, remove the -d]
To bring up the infosearch viewer, type "infosearch".
Tip: When it comes up, you'll see a keyword search dialog. To
browse your books, instead of search them, click the "Online
Books" link. (ie, click the words themselves).
