You may consider the following - to download from rpmfind gcc3.1 for RedHat
and all needed new gcc3.1 tbinaries such as libstd++ etc ...and download
and install Performer rpms compiled for gcc3.0

For me on Suse8.0 I work fine with gcc3.1 binaries ..

which I took here ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/aj/Current_Toolchain/i386

and Performer binaries for gcc3.0 ........

But what we have next (just some thoughts about....)

we all know a new Performer update release 2.5.2 is coming soon ...

and we know there were reasons to issues Performer binaries for gcc3 in
release 2.5.1 and for me it is a great thing really ( as I use these
binaries)

Now what we have from http://gcc.gnu.org/develop.html

New development plan announced Branch renamed to GCC 3.2 to
       | (Jul 14 2002) accomodate for C++ ABI fixes
       | (C++ binary incompatible with
       | GCC 3.1, see release info)
       | \
       | v
       | GCC 3.2 release (Jul 23 2002)

Thus just very soon we will have gcc3.2 which will be (possibly) binary
incompatible with gcc3 ...gcc3.1
On the other hand gcc3.2 will not be at any distro to the time of Performer
update release ( other than it would be possible to get it from rpmfind
.....)

it seems we have some sort of dead lock ...
an option to use already 'obsolete' gcc3.0-3.1 compatible binaries ....( as
after ABI fixes
it hardly possible that any distro will come gcc3.0 compatible ....)
or use just new gcc3.2 binaries (if they will be in Performer update ..)
which are currently not supported
by any distro ...
Just a puzzle ....

Serge
