pfGurus:
I'm having performance problems on a dual Athlon MP (actually the dual
makes no difference, same problems when booting the uni-processor kernel)
and a Wildcat 5110 graphics card with XiGraphics drivers. Here are the
particulars:
Tyan S2462 Thunder K7 (AMD 760MP chipset)
(2) Athlon 2000+ MP processors
1 GB 2100 Registered DDR Memory
36GB IBM SCSI Drive
RH7.3 (kernel 2.4.18-3, nopentium kernel option)
Performer 2.5.1
We are attempting to use this setup for pfCAVE applications and some of the
apps run almost ok, but others are sloooow. The one that runs the worst
has lots of textures in a limited area. When the high-texture area is in
the view, the app runs like a slide show, when that same area is out of
view, the performance is fine. I don't think it is a texture memory issue
because the same application runs fine on my laptop (P4, 32MB GeForce 4 440).
The other issue I have is that there are random interrupts during all
pfapplications when the app freezes for a split second. When running
perfly with the Sats turned on (Dft), the red status line that runs across
the bottom has spikes that correspond to these interrups. They occur
randomly, about 2 or 3 per second.
I'm going to be doing some more debugging, but wanted to see if there were
any insights from the community before I get to deep. Does anyone else
have a similar setup? If so, how is it working? I'm trying to get this
computer ready for a demo next week at SIGGRAPH, so I would like to resolve
some of these issues (soon) if possible. If I can't, I'll just have to not
show the best demo. :(
Thanks,
Chris
