It looks like the 3ds loader uses some IL (Imagevision Library) routines
to convert 3ds textures for Performer to use. IL is not available for
Linux, so it fails. Oops!

Your best short-term option is to try converting the file to a different
format before loading it into Performer. Or if you have access to an
IRIX system use 'pfconv' to write it into a pfb file, then copy the
resulting pfb over to the Linux box.
