Like you suspected, it will work only with VRML 1.0 files. VRML 2.0 is quite
different.

I know of a way to load VRML files into Performer... Actually, they're
not very different from IV (Open Inventor) files, so if you have the
libs installed, things work just fine. Rename your .wrl files to .iv
and change the header of each ex-wrl file (with any text editor) to:
#Inventor V2.1 ascii

This works fine for me, hope it helps you out...

ps: i'm not sure, but I think it may only work with vrml 1.0 or 2.0
files, don't know which one anymore... my guess is 2.0, not 100%
confident though...
