1: what are you using to move the files to the linux box? could they be
corrupted in the process?
    if (using ftp) don't forget to set bin mode!
2: could the new converters be broken?

It sounds like the problem is in the transfer but it's tough to tell with
the limited info.
What is the modeller your using?
