Hello pfEverybody,
I'm looking for a mobile solution for our Performer application.
I divided offered laptops on 2 markets depending on price and
used graphic chips.
1. LowEnd/Low Cost <$1500, graphics usually on-board with shared system
memory
- Trident Cyber Alladin
- Intel
- Savage 3D
- cheaper and older ATI 16M
Offered by some manufacturers, HP seems to be nicest.
How does it work under Linux and Performer?
How about accelerated X drivers?
2. HiEnd/More expensive >$1500
- GeForce 2 Go 16/32MB
- ATI Radeon 7500
- GeForce 4 Go
In this area I had oportunity to test Dell with GF4, results are
promising, but
this is too expensive. Alternative is ATI 7500, which seems to be better
solution
than GF2 (has more memory and at least under Windows is faster).
Has anybody tested it under Linux and how good is accelerated 3D under
X11,
does Performer work correctly, what are eventual problems and traps?
Price of ATI Dell is the same as with GF2 32M, so it looks pretty good.
How to obtain accelerated Linux drivers, is it provided by ATI itself
(like in NVidia case) or is it OSF?
Could anybody help and advise me?
My first choice is ATI solution because of price of whole system and
good results vs GF2.
But on the other hand I know that choosing NVidia I would have less
problems.
GF4 Go is not an option because of high price.
Thanks in advance,
Pawel
