The normal libraries are compiled optimized and do not contain debugging
info, so they run faster and take less memory.

The debug libs have information which allows you to get a stack trace and
more information about where things go wrong. There are a few extra little
things that get printed out here and there, but the functionality is the
same. Take a look at the performer(3pf) man page to get a list of
environment variables performer listens to. The ones containing the word
DEBUG will generally only work with the debug libs.
