pfMalloc error inside of pfInit()

I have played around with adjusting pfSharedArenaSize and pfSharedArenaBase,
however, I am having no luck getting past a failed pfMalloc call being made
inside of pfInit(). Has anyone else run into this problem? I am running on
an Onyx3 running IRIX 6.5.11 and Performer 2.5.
