One source that you might look into is the Real Time Graphics newsletter
published by CGSD. They have an annual "Survey of Run-Time Software
Packages", the most recent in their December 2001 issue. Of course, do
bear in mind this deals mostly with the capabilities you might look for
in a full run-time IG, as compared to those in a middleware toolkit.
The way this survey works is that they send a questionnaire to various
vendors asking them to rate on a scale from 0 (not supported) to 3
(point-and-click) how they measure up on a long list of capabilities
and print whatever claim the vendor makes.

As far as the SGI toolkits go, http://www.sgi.com/software/performer is
also an excellent starting point. :-)
