camera back and forth

I’m trying to create an application that moves the camera back and forth in
a scene using the keyboard – I cannot find a simple example of this kind of
thing, some examples of immensely complicated and would take me years to
work out what’s happening – can anyone point me in the direction where I can
find a well written simple program that shows me how to do this one simple
thing?
