anisotropic texturing

Why is that when I try to run the anisotropic texturing example:
/usr/share/Performer/src/pguide/libpf/C/anisotropic
I get an error message telling me that anisotropic texturing is not
supported on my Onyx 2 IR running 6.5.11?
