To prevent tiling, your texture coordinates must be in the range [0,1] on
the surface of the cylinder. This is actually pretty easy to do for a
cylinder, since it's essenctially a rectangle wrapped so that the ends
meet.

For an simple mapping, you can compute the S texture coordinate as a ratio
of angles (vertex angular position / 360) and your T coordinate as a ratio
of how far are you from the bottom of the cylinder to the top.
