Hello Performers!
SGI announced today four new MIPS/IRIX products and a new concept in
advanced visualization called Visual Area Networking. I'd like to
outline the announcements for those who have not yet seen them; and I
invite you all to visit the SGI website http://www.sgi.com to check
them out.
The vision of Visual Area Networking is "to enable universal access
to advanced visualization using any computing device, over standard
networks. It allows users to interact with advanced visualization
supercomputers individually or as a collaborative community of users,
from anywhere in the world. It allows globally dispersed teams to
visualize and interact with data in ways never previously possible."
Our team is particularly excited about Visual Area Networking as it
makes it possible to use an Onyx to distribute OpenGL Performer
visuals to any system running IRIX, Linux, NT, and Solaris -- be it a
laptop, PC, workstation, wireless tablet device or in the future,
wireless PDAs.
More information about Visual Area Networking is here:

On to the new products! They are:
1. SGI Onyx 3000 series with NEW InfinitePerformance Graphics
2. SGI Onyx 300 with InfiniteReality3 Graphics
3. Silicon Graphics Fuel, high-performance desktop workstation
4. OpenGL Vizserver 2.0
OpenGL Performer 2.5 is fully integrated with these new products and
also provides the power at the core of many Visual Area Networking
applications. I'll quote a few highlights about each new product
below, please visit the SGI website, contact us, or contact your SGI
reps for more information!
1. SGI Onyx 3000 series with InfinitePerformance Graphics
"The SGI Onyx 3000 series with InfinitePerformance graphics is
built on the shared memory SGI NUMAflex architecture and delivers
up to 283 MILLION triangles per second and 7.7 BILLION pixels per
second of sustained performance to a single display to enable the
interactive manipulation and analysis of the most complex
problems in an organization."

2. SGI Onyx 300 with InfiniteReality3 Graphics
"The SGI Onyx 300 visualization system provides denser rack
configurations and lower price points for InfiniteReality3
graphics capabilities. It also provides customers with a cost-
effective growth path as their visualization and computational
needs grow. Onyx 300 InfiniteReality3 can scale up to 32 CPUs and
two graphics pipes in a single compact rack configuration."

3. Silicon Graphics Fuel, high-performance desktop workstation
"Silicon Graphics Fuel features the latest MIPS R14000A
processor, the unparalleled VPro 3D graphics system for IRIX
operating system and a high-bandwidth design based on the SGI
3000 family of Onyx and Origin systems. Due to its high-
performance architecture, this workstation is perfectly designed
to execute demanding applications for creative and technical
users, while the 48-bit RGBA bit depth provides the highest level
of precision available on any desktop system today." Fuel has a
U.S. List price of $11,495.

4. OpenGL Vizserver 2.0
"OpenGL Vizserver 2.0 software enables users to access and
manipulate high-quality visual results generated by SGI Onyx
visualization systems. OpenGL Vizserver 2.0 is designed to run
over standard high-speed networks without the need for costly
special-purpose networking and to allow users to access any
OpenGL API-based application."
