Unless your file format conversion involves tessellation or simplification, you
should see no difference in rendering time.

However, converting from one format to another can change the loading time of a
model. For example: when converting a file into pfb format, its geometry
doesn't change (and so it would render at the same speed). Since the pfb format
is native to Performer, pfb models load faster from disk.
