I wrote a TGA loader once...

TgaImporter.h and TgaImporter.cxx
Just drop into your own makefile (I don't build a lib in this version)...
It's LGPL, have fun. (there is probably something on the SGI you could
use, but is it available on all platforms? not sure, but mine is...)

ps. let me know if you have any problems, I've got a slightly more up to
date one available if you need it.
pss. There is also RGB, RGBA, BMP, PCX in addition to the TGA one. 24
and 32 bit color with or without compression is supported.
