Thanks for all the help!

It did turn out to be somewhat related to me having a 16-bit depth buffer (I couldn't get 24-bit depth to work in the 1920x1200 resolution that I'm using on my GF3 - I'm not an expert with XFree86 Modelines). In fact, I should have turned off the z buffer for the particular window as it shows a 2D map. I hadn't changed the XFree86Config-4, it was just that somehow Performer 2.3 worked fine!?! Using glDisable(GL_DEPTH_TEST) solved the problem of course.

Thanks again!

Mike.

Moved to Performer 2.4.2, with NO change of nvidia driver, and now Performer seems unable to draw the blended overlay shapes and cyclic lines without them breaking up randomly (as though some of the triangles making up the circles and some of the lines are being clipped out - weird). Any ideas?

Yes.
This could easily happen if your Z-depth is reduced.

This reduction could be caused by starting your X-server in 16bpp instead of 24bpp,
so it would not require a driver change.

So maybe the DefaultDepth parameter in your xserver cfg has changed?
