I went through some of this and have seen more info on the list (check
the archives for the last month or so).

The newest NVida drivers work much better (1.0-1541), but only for
single threaded mode. In multi-threaded mode, they hang. I was using
a quadro2 pro on a dual processor SGI 330.

I think people have gotten this working fully (multi-threaded), but I
don't know what version of the drivers they were using. I also don't
know where to find the older versions.
